Go Give 'Er

Go Give 'Er

During the holidays, a viable gift option for the person who has everything is to make a donation to a charity his or her name. No one captures the awkwardness better than Seinfeld’s George Costanza. You remember this episode:

George: Hey, check this out. I gotta give out Christmas presents to everyone down at Kruger, so I'm pulling a Whatley. (Gives a Christmas card to Jerry)
Jerry: (Reading it) "A donation has been made in your name to the Human Fund." - What is that?
George: (With pride) Made it up.
Jerry: (Continuing reading) "The Human Fund. Money for people."
George: What do you think?
Jerry: It has a certain understated stupidity.

Fortunately, the fly fishing industry has a number of real non-profits offering excellent gifting opportunities. I’ve chosen these four: Casting for Recovery, Utah Stream Access Coalition, Project Healing Waters and Trout Unlimited.

This year, Casting For Recovery is an official partner of #GivingTuesday, the day dedicated to personal philanthropy and inspired giving.  A fun way to participate in #GivingTuesday (tomorrow, Tuesday, December 2) is to stretch that casting arm way out and post an UNselfie--an unselfish selfie in support of Casting for Recovery

Want to participate? Here’s how: Take a picture of yourself using THIS TEMPLATE to explain how you're honoring a key milestone for a breast cancer survivor. Post your photo to Instagram,Facebook and Twitter using the hashtags #unselfie and #givingtuesday—and be sure to tag CfR.

Happy giving, everyone. As George Costanza says: I've been doing a lot of thinking. This might be my chance to start giving something back.
